Task
I used named entity recognition to extract the names of all "protagonists" from the complete works of Marx and Engels (MEW) and set them in relation based on simple co-occurrence (do names appear together, if yes, how often). Python script and data: https://github.com/zentralwerkstatt/eng238/tree/master/practicum6. These are screenshots from the "overview" mode because the "preview" mode just showed a black square - not sure why. Gephi file: https://github.com/zentralwerkstatt/eng238/blob/master/practicum6/graph.gephi.
Results
The graph is filtered to show only relations of at least degree 10.
Although the graph is very dense, some "smaller" communities/local centers are visible.
Not surprising: Marx and Engels in the very center.
A "community" around the failed revolution of 1848, with "Louis Napoleon" in the center.
Philosophers: Hegel (and "Hegels" - lemmatization of German names is an impossible task), Feuerbach, and others.
