I mapped the different locations visited and mentioned in Octavia Butler's short story Speech Sounds. Speech Sounds is set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles after a plague has swept across the United States, affecting peoples' ability to speak, read, write, and understand language. I was interested to see what visually mapping a story about the inability to communicate with language might show me.
